In my many years of animating cartoons, the man who made me feel the most pride in putting on an illusion is Jim Henson... Until The Dark Crystal, you can't make puppets look real, that's the uncanny valley, and that's no good. But simplicity is a wonderful style, and simplicity is comedy, specifically those simple furry little monsters in a world of live action people, that's awesome, and it holds up in any language, on any planet, and in any courtroom.
Notice how one man's hand, shaped in several forms causes expressions that don't particularly resemble any real human emotion, I find it strikingly similar to the works of John K.
The man of a million expressions, John K, known for Ren & Stimpy created facial expressions that no living being could ever create. Although the Muppets lack teeth to do facial expressions. like that, however John's expressions lack the believably that most animations attempt to achieve, the same way that hand puppets can create expressions in a completely unrealistic matter, it's all in good fun.
